National monetary authority of Thailand, established 1942
Operates under the Bank of Thailand Act B.E. 2485 with statutory policy independence
Money and payments sit with BOT; digital assets sit with the SEC
The Bank of Thailand (BOT) is the central bank of the Kingdom of Thailand, established under the Bank of Thailand Act B.E. 2485 (1942). It conducts monetary policy, supervises commercial banks, oversees payment systems and administers the foreign-exchange regime under the Exchange Control Act B.E. 2485.
Unlike jurisdictions where one authority covers both money and capital markets, Thailand splits the two. Digital asset business licensing sits with the Securities and Exchange Commission under the Emergency Decree on Digital Asset Businesses B.E. 2561 (2018), while BOT retains authority over payments and the baht.

The transition from absolute monarchy established the constitutional framework that still underpins the modern Thai state.
The currency crisis that began in Thailand forced a rebuild of financial supervision, producing a markedly more resilient banking system.
